Then you need a keyword strategy to ensure you’re not missing out on the specific terms your customers are searching for. This will help you get found on Google and sell more cars.
In this blog, we’ll dive into the importance of keywords, how keywords will help you stay on top of your customers’ search behavior, and what to do if your content strategy does not match the keywords you want to target.
What are keywords?
Keywords are the important words and phrases in your web content that make it possible for people to find your site via search engines. By targeting the same keywords in your content that your potential customers are searching for, you’ll be able to attract them to your website.
That’s all well and good, but how do keywords help me sell more cars?
Glad you asked. There are multiple ways you can use keywords to bring people to your website and convert them into sales leads.
Keywords can help you clear out your inventory.
Chances are your new and used car inventories fluctuate. When you have a large number of a particular model that you want to sell, you can target it with keywords. For example, if you’re a Hyundai dealer who has a large number of Elantras on your lot, you can create content such as Hyundai Elantra vehicle reviews, Hyundai Elantra vehicle comparisons, Hyundai Elantra technology guides, Hyundai Elantra safety guides, and so on.
The more you target the keyword “Hyundai Elantra,” the more likely your web content will appear in search engine result pages. The more your content appears in these pages, the more opportunities people have to visit your website and purchase an Elantra.
Additionally, keywords allow you to target specific geographic locations.
If you’re a Hyundai dealer in Philadelphia, having people in California find your Elantra content won’t help you sell many cars. By using your primary marketing areas as keywords, you can ensure that people within your geo-targeted locations find your content.
OK, but what if people aren’t searching for Hyundai Elantras?
There are many different keyword research tools you can use to see which keywords your target customers are searching for. Look for keywords with high search volume and low competition, and target those terms in your web content.
One of the most powerful keyword research tools on the market? Google! Type a potential keyword into Google’s search bar, and see which phrases appear in autofill. You can also scroll to the bottom of the search results page to look at the “Searches related to” box. This will show you similar keyword phrases that people are also searching for.
This is all really great info if I’m starting a content strategy, but what do I do if I already have content that doesn’t target the right keywords?
Start by auditing your website’s content to see which pages can be optimized for the correct keywords. Once you identify the pages you’d like to optimize, edit the content to include your keywords. If you have a powerful keyword you want to target but can’t find an existing piece to optimize, write a new piece of web content that utilizes that keyword. Your efforts will pay off once your vehicles start rolling off the lot.
